Barcampbangalore

I should be a dumb missing the last Bangalore bloggers meet. Thanks to Events Bangalore to give me a wakeup call as that I'm missing my appointments. A group of Bangalore bloggers gathered last Saturday at a nice location BrewHaHa in Koramangala. I needn't write more, since other bloggers got plenty more to say. They brain stormed on various topics on blogging. One of the outcome was Barcampbangalore on Jul 28th and 29th at IIM Bangalore. Interested people can register and pass a word to others. Here is the schedule of the sessions!

Meet you there!
Happy Blogging!

Friday the 13th

"A Friday occurring on the 13th day of any month is considered to be a day of bad luck in English, German, Polish and Portuguese-speaking cultures around the globe." says the wiki. Paraskavedekatriaphobia - Fear of Friday the 13th. Not only an ancient belief, but a technical background too in the form of a Computer Virus. Here is MaAfee report.

But here in bangalore, yet another friday. Sky is gloomy as ever without the sun. People are getting lazy & lazy day by day (inc). Still 3 young guys are breaking these bariers and getting ready to rock & roll on this day. Btw what could be the occation? Is it a wedding? - No they are not old enough to tie the knot or few din find the right match yet. Is it some one's birthday? - No. What else, are they venturing out with a new company? - Not now, may be future has an answer! So what is it then. Well its their "House Warming Ceremony". Yes we have rented out a newly built house in the heart of the city "Koramangala". So they decided to follow the tradition! Also managed to ramp up with an e-invite in minuites.

So its all now left for it to happen. Hoping to expect a decent crowd for the occasion. Hoping that this would be an unoffical get-together. :) Lots of work is being done on getting the dinner menu ready! Arranging for a photographer! Milk - Key item. Even leaving office early today to kick of the work.

Also there have been lot of rumors from untrused sources that this might be a big Joke, etc etc. But we will prove them all wrong today evening. One final note we got this idea and inspirations from this this & this.

Feedback, Suggestion - Leave us a comment.
Thanks - HW Team

Update:
Lot of you asked for an update. So here it is. To be frank I was proved wrong! Or the last 3 this's were proved wrong. The house warming ceremony was auspiciously done by Gopal's parents. As put in the agenda milk was boiled. Chief guest was there. We do have photos and videos, which will be uploaded and shared soon. Btw anybody can check into the house anytime, were you are welcomed with warm heart and served good food. ;)

Super Singer

Thumbs down!

A search for the best voice talent in state! Super Singer - Junior. A very good creative show to showcase every hidden talent. This is second in the row, followed by Super singer comprising for all category. I had not been in constant touch with the show. Now that this Super singer junior has reached its finals! Nice to see all those kids perform with their gifted voice. The jury giving their valuable feedback etc etc.

But, I see a annoying side of the programme. The explicit showing of the emotional ups & downs they undergo. Right from the beginning till the finale this is happening. The way those small kids cry of failure, their parents prayers with tears, brothers, sisters. Such shows now more concentrate on that aspect of the programme more than the actual telecast. An unnecessary intro to few children happened even before they sang the first song in the audition. These emotions are also a strong reason of the commercial success of these programmes which is inevitable. Even if they don't eliminate at least the organizers can reduce them in future esp with children!

But Star Vijay TV's efforts in such new ventures is creditable. Lots of new programmes are being introduced and are being duped by rival channels. But Vijay TV play a major stake in reality shows and such talent hunts.

Awake

No! I was not sleeping or forgot the fact that I need to write something here. Every week I tried to post and I was not able to. Held up on certain things! Lots to write from my side of the month. But to begin with here is a coffee code conversation with one of my colleague here. He marched to the white board and wrote this,

{
printf("suresh\0kumar");
printf("12345\06789");
}

doesn't it look simple. try your C skills on this. Solution at the end.

In my office one can see the friendly chameleon sketches stuck in many walls. Some even started coloring them with their own style. :) The SUSE hack week started this Monday (June 25th). Look this video of how it really started :). I was just reading & listening to some of the ideas. They looked cool hacks.

An interesting thought struck me yesterday night. Most corporate citizens have X allowance and Y allowance, so here is one to include in that boring list. "Auto Allowance" - applicable for Bangalore makkal alone. But now the question arises how will you reclaim this allowance, since the Finance dept will ask for the bills. I have a suggestion for that too. Install prepaid tickets issuing counters at very close proximity (say every BMTC Bus stop). Let it be automated, where we type in and get the ticket. Also pay the autowala with the prepaid amount. But how will you be sure of the genuineness of the tickets. Suggestions?

Next bloggers around me were really active and wrote many. Out of them few I found interesting like this and this and this. I had been very dormant when compared.

I saw Shivaji on the 3rd day, Our Super Star is back at his best. A through full time entertainment of 180 mins. Vivek's comedy, Music, screenplay, dialog, theme everything was good. For a fan its eternity after watching this film. A nice review was here and here

I walk alone I walk alone

I walk a lonely road
The only one that I have ever known
Don't know where it goes
But its home to me and I walk alone

The number that I have been recently hearing. Or I start realizing that its really happening. Yes indeed its happening right here. Everyone are opening their next chapters of life. The new chapter is not the same for all, everyone having them differently. Finally all are left alone with different things. Now there are more people who move out of Bangalore than they come inside to bangalore. Its only a hand full of we guys who had stuck together for a long time! would continue too...

Listen to the beautiful song!

I walk a lonely road... This song recently played in Novell Annual Day, by few of my friends here. Best of the music performance given for that evening. Yes, it was fun all through the 20 days to Novell Annual Day preparation. I staged 2 dances one was from "Don", the other was "Where's the party tonight". It was great feeling for me, now that because of this I came to know more people in and around me. Also, I have a long awaited company during the journey in office cab in the slogging hosur road traffic. I got a MP3 players as an annual day goodie!

P.S: Finally I embedded music also to my blog. Song source here
Update: Just be careful, Don be over involved in this song. It can break friendship! Or you might really walk alone! :)

Musings

I want to write many thing but where do I start. Ok let me put them in the chronological order!

Date: 25th May 2007
Place: Madiwala
I was to board the bus from Bangalore to Coimbatore. Due to the heavy pour in the evening buses arrived late. Until then it was supposed to be a boring 60 minutes standing there. But then I noted the things around me and entertained myself. First thing I found mobile phone users. For every 10 person standing there 4 of them are talking in their mobiles. Talking with, their loved once, some engineers still helping & directing their colleges to fix bugs, some call their parents and inform their safe arrival to the bus stand and their arrival time to their home town and some even call random friends and have a talk with them to pass time. Next time try to observe people. :) Its fun.

Date: 28th May 2007
Place: Q-angle, PSG College of Technology
A most memorable day for us! We graduated on this day! We were declared as degree holders and took a pledge. I would never feel like saying our days in Tech soil are over. Its just a change in designation from Student to Alumnus. The Vice Chairman of Cognizant preceded over the function. Photos uploading delayed.

Date:30th May 2007
Place: Microsoft
My feed reader said, Microsoft Surface has been announced. With the usual inquisitiveness I opened a new tab. Once I went to all the presentations and navigated the site, I would say Microsoft Surface has taken users beyond their expectations. Its awesome. Do check out and find more. Yet another fancy stuff from Redmond after Photosynth is this.

Date: 31st May 2007
Place: Bangalore
Yet another designation change! New challenges, new crew!

In Love of NUMB3RS

This post will definitely help fellow Bloggers to enhance their blogging experience and might motivate new bloggers!

Long since I have kept track of many Google's beta. Once such was this "Google Analytics". Analytics is a free service offered by Google that generates detailed statistics about the visitors to a website. Its main highlight is that a webmaster can optimize their AdWords advertisement and marketing campaigns through the use of Google Analytics's analysis of where the visitors came from, how long they stayed on the website and their geographical position. Today my older interface was automatically migrated to new Ajax rich interface. That I fell in love with immediately.

You get what you need. Thought I don host a commercial website, the figures that are displayed make me understand about the visitor who visit my blog. Some new features that caught my eye was Ajax rich User experience. The graphs and dimensional summary I get regarding my blog. My favorite of the all is the export as pdf option. For the report I give a perfect 10. Of late I was googling of how to upload files in blogger. The first link said bloggers disallow uploading files for security reason. But I din want to use third party servers to host my file. Finally with a little scratch of my head I found a method and uploaded my pdf report here.

Quick Glances:
  • I found this post on Universal search interesting.
  • Here is my Feed Reader. All news & blogs are read using it.
