My small cricketing Career!

As mentioned earlier, I joined my school cricket team in my 9th. Then in 10th lots of the big names in the team passed out after their 12th STD. So its the young boys to take charge. There were 4 quickies in the team then. Myself, karthi, Vinod, another one right hander. That year our school was the host of the games. So its our home ground. To be frank, it was a bad and small ground. A chip in the leg side will fetch a six. Rightly to be said as the Batsman's paradise. One big boot was our entire school was behind us including the staff, which was a moral boost for us. I remember our team wore a yellow tops for the game.

It was a one day event. League in the morning and finale by the end. 6 teams were there, I think. In spite we being the host we were the team to play most matches. We won the first one in ease. The other team did not have a good bowling attack and our batsman's took the match in ease. Then the lunch in annapoorna. Man good place to have a lunch, but keeping the upcoming matches behind my head, I ate little. Then it was the semi's our second match. It was said that team was a tough one to be beaten. But...

We are to bat first and put up a decent score on the boards. Surprisingly in spite there being 2 better pace bowlers in my team. I was given the second over :-). The entire atmosphere suited me. The ground, the mat (on which we bowl), the view of the batman from the bowling end. All was familiar to me. So all made to go well. I'm not sure about the exact stats. But believe me. My captain had faith on me. Then my magic second spell. I hope by that time 3 wickets had fallen. First ball was a dot ball. Went back, got the ball had my usual breath out to relax myself and started my run up. It was a straight ball, batman misjudged it, there flew his sticks. One down, I was not spirited with energy, then my next ball. Right in the block hole. Bang !!! flew his sticks. Then came the roar from my school crowd behind the wicket. Now everyone were excited! Then again for the next ball. I over stretched myself and just missed the batsman's pad to the leg side. Declared a wide. :-( Missed my hattrick. Then have to re bowl the ball. I collected myself, made me think that "I took no wickets". then bowled the ball. Good length, batsman misses it, again the sticks. Since it hit the top of the wood, the sticks travelled a few yards back. Ya! Wow. Three consecutive wickets. So a hatrick in my small career. I remember me making a huge run to the crowd and price(sir) was leading them. It was a memorable match which we won.

Keeping in mind we went to the finals. Again a good competitive team. We batted first for a decent score. Then to bowl. As usual I was given to open the bowling. Also it was getting late. So the overs were reduced to 8 I suppose. So 2 over quota for each bowler :(. I had the second over and then the last over. In between other bowlers backed up doing their job as directed. Oops last over and 7 runs to lose the game/tournament. Having confidence in me, captain gave me the ball to bowl. Tidy quick over, pitched up the ball well. "Did we win?" Yes was the answer. Running out in joy and screaming around all the campus.

That day evening I carried home the trophy. I had to return it to be kept in games room. Happy moments for me.

Memories and Fun:
Once, Suresh(sir) came along to the area where we were practicing. He gave a comment that "Karthik's batting style, looks like that of Rahul Dravid". Yeskay was flattered.
Ajay(thopai), during the evening when we were playing. He faced me for a ball. That was a cork ball and not a stitch cork. Unfortunately I lost the control of the ball and it went as a beemer to him. Without cleverly moving away, he tried some gilly pull shot. Sorry, he only tried, But missed the ball. The ball landed right on his left eye :(. Nothing was serious, but he had a black circle around his eyes soon after that. Remember Arjun used to laugh like hell when he hears this.
Bharath(sorry for him). During selection I suppose, He had to face my ball. I pushed the ball well inn. It went in a flash and hit his ribbs. He was down. Nothing was serious.
Next Charles, great fielder. I remember he using both his hands once, I mean throwing the ball.
Arun J Raja. Great wicky. It was too painful for him to collect balls from all the quickies in the team. some times shares his burden with charles.
Samyraj, stylish left hander and skipper when were on 12th.

Also the next consecutive year, we lost the tournament. but need not talk about that...

Those where the Best Day's of My Life! - Cont..

Cont...

MY 10th STD here. Maths humm I rember him, Velmurugan(sir). [ExamNo:21030 and ExamNo:21052 please don talk]. He used to be that much sure of our exam number and knows well about us. Good maths teacher. Then for physics fanklin(sir), a class loaded with fun always. [What is light? According to Physics, Light is nothing but Light!] Geography Sivanantham(sir). One good fun is the classes when he asks us to spot out places in the map. He used to sit in the last bench and tell a place in India map. The best thing to do is to drag the scale from jammu till the southern tip. On the way we might come across the place and he would say, "Ah right da de, Come and sit ah". But if its a bad day he would call and catch the front tip of the hair, we wont know if to laugh or cry. Some of my friends would have had a hair cut and the hair seems to be very short. It makes the whole class laugh. Biology [prici], but till 9th STD we had Riyazzudin sir, whom we no more have with us. He was nice with me but for certain people he was not. Princi class was bore, he used to give long notes which we copied down and mugged it @ the end. Next chemistry, Suresh(sir). We had lot of fun in his class during the higher secondary. he always used to call me, "Eanna vijesh, tell something". I used to stand there with a huge smile. Some of them I missed during the High school are Centram(sir) always used to say "Then and there catch the Main point da" on the course of the lecture. There used to be silent giggling at the last rows. L****(sir), he was the PT master for an year, who never took us to the ground and he himself seems to have never taken any physical training. Just like me refreshing my memories in this blog. He one day he told some bla bla stories. To note a few in them were, he was a lad who never touched his books and catches squirrels. Also most amazing fact was that he flew a kite from maruthamalai to saibaba colony. Which is almost 10kms. God knows how he managed to bring such a big rope and make a judgement that it flew above saibaba colony :).

Let me recollect and then type...
But still more to come...

Those where the Best Day's of My Life!

Guess what I'm talking about!

My school days! I had spent more than a decade in Lisieux. A typical high standard BoyS :) school. My golden period in this school is 10th - 12th STD. I enjoyed and studied more. During the early days my education (primary) I used to be first in the class from the last :). I travelled with my "Street hauk" [Hercules MTB bycycle] to school. Then for 10th-12th I got my ferrari [red sunny zip].

Let me tell some pleasent things in the Best days of my life.

I remeber 6th STD my english master Price(sir) he narrated us an detective Novel or Movie "Where Eagles Dare". Man it was great, used to listen those than any other subject I did. It even made me watch my full length english late night movie for the first time, when he informed that its telecasted as a movie.

7th STD was yet another memorable one! I lost one, and gained a few. Jhonny (alais Janikiraman) was a good friend of mine, who has to shift to chennai due to his fathers official duties. Unfortunately lost contacts with him in later years. Someone reading this post can find him :). Few I gained were Bharath. I should mention about him, one among the few good teachers from my school. Rajasekar(sir). He handled English non-detail for us that year. Great inspiring teacher who teaches with his own style. He throws the chalk, kicks the benches when he makes mistakes and always motivates us in studies. We were too.

Now 8th fun is starting to accumulate. Loads of mischief on the road. Lots of new friends some to mention are vivek, karthi, arunesh, kalla, N karthi, riyaz, muzzambil, akshy ramesh, sam, rino, anish, vinod, huff the list is too long and my brain is not remembring all. I remember one of my friends writing in a Geography exam. The question was to brief on the coniferous forests of India. He did not know the answer, so fill up lines, he started to write about the trees there and its uses (ex: making cricket bat). Then he wrote about sachin tendular who used that bat. If I'm not wrong about a match which he used the bat. I think it was Guna. Next our tamil master rightly called as pottu t*&%$# [censored]. We all used to read a paragraph from the book on turns. Mean while the sir will be walking in and out the class room. We used to tick scores for his walk. When he goes to the door 1run scored. Comes inbetween the rows 2runs, outside of the class 4runs and goes to the other side corredore to spit :) then its a sixer. Guess what, he has made several 50ies during such a walk. Even while composing this, I cant stop laughing.

Then 9th, lots of new things happened. Notable is my school cricket! I'm bascailly a bowler and desiered to a pinch hitter with the bat. Don't have patience to stay and turn around and run for singles like abi. Some times ppl called me Dennis Lilee for my bowling (not sure if that suits me!). Arunesh was bowler I have to watch around while bating. Since he comes around the wicket for me and bowls exactly at the yorker and good length line for me. I have lost my wicket many times to him. I would like to mention my big Six of muzzambil. He was a leg spinner and gave a ball right where my bat can reach on the leg side. I ball traveled a full length of a football field and was lost. When I talk about cricket I have to write more. I went in for the selection with bharath and karthi. Myself and karthi got thro, since the PT master wanted bharath to play basketball. At that point ours was a good team with left arm quicky vinod my senior. When I'm some where around the batting area. I could hear the stitch cork wizziling away. Then few good all rounders too. Not able to remember their name :(. Then we got a tournament that year, but was not able to play since the team was over crowed and made to sit in the bench. We lost it to stanes I guess.

Then it was year 10th. We would feel some kind of Gethu is the school that we are the senior boys, bost ourselves well to our juniors. We did a lot in one of our farewell years. For Tamil velusamy sir, I could still remember him asking me if I would pass in tamil in the board exam. But still managed a decent score finally.

What am I doing? I got work to do!
Be right back...

Primary Eduction!

Did I have one?

WELL, I did. By shifting lots of schools. Remember I started with Avanishilingam kinder garden section. The best place to go, Morning some rythymic ABCDs, then afternoon a good lunch and we have to sleep in the school itself. Then return home. I wounder why they don follow this every where... :-)

NEXT to Don Bose Co for my LKG, Next my Lisieux. From UKG to 2nd STD, I remember that during the first few years it was Co-education school. No guesses, it then got separated to Avila convent (if I'm right). Then only for my 3rd STD I was admitted in "Ideal" a rural school. Only reason I was sent there was because my neighborhood friend was studying there. It was my only co-education schooling. I even stagged a group dance with my friends. Good one, but didnt last long for me. Again I was shifted back to Lisieux for my 4th STD. I can remember my social madam Azhil (I'm spelling it wrong), she used to be a terror for my those days. When she enters the class, I leave the class. I was an out standing student during that time. Princi used to come rounds and catch hold of me. Lots of Mischief. I was an outstanding person at my class. :P Also still remember those lunch session where I love the curd rice that Abinav brings and he took my carrier. I never liked going to school, (may be realised that, Class rooms dull your mind) tough job the hands of my dad who used to drag me for the school bus in the Morning. But hard luck every day, the school bus that crosses my stopping ("Housing Unit") by 7:30 but again comes back in the same route in another 15 mins. Many a times, I had to cross the road and then pushed into the bus. :)
