Nadunisi Naaygal movie review

" Obsession - Sexual abuse - MPD "

Nadunisi Naaygal is a Photon Kathaas production from the director Gautham Menon. After success from romantic Vinnaithandi varuvaya, Gautham's attempt in an alternate genre is Nadunissi Naaygal which he tags as a psychological thriller.

The movie is about a psychotic man who has a dark childhood.  His obsession with a woman, sexual abuse in his past and his multiple personalities lead to the killing of many girls who come across in his life. The whole movie is a flashback narrated by Veera, the lead role in the movie. The first half is about what happens in his childhood and how he is rescued and is given a chance of new life through Meenakshi, a neighbor. Soon, memories of his childhood start haunting veera and he turns violent. He goes hunting for girls, abuses them sexually and eventually kills them. Sameera reddy aka Sukanya is the turning point in Veera's life and brings him to limelight. The story continues to end narrating how Sukanya's life changed because of the kidnap.

Technically there are no songs or BGM (that's what Gautham Menon claimed in an interview) in the movie. Many credits to the cameraman who has done a great job with unusual camera angles. Especially scenes within the car and some scenes where the camera acts a character's eye view. Sound engineering is another plus in the movie, but not great. Screenplay is like a sine curve, there are peaks where it moves fast and valleys where it is slow with repeated dialogues. I would say that dialogues are the drawback of this movie. "I love you Meenakshi amma, naan ungala nalla vechu pathukren", makes many from the audience giggle, since it sounds similar to "Chellam, I love you da" - from Prakash Raj. Another aspect that I felt missing in the movie was that the movie rarely was "thrilling", and only few scenes really gave goose bumps. With a storyline like that Gautham Menon could have made a great thriller, if the screenplay had been better.

It's a common sentiment that the movie is disturbing. How disturbing, that is left to one's tolerance. There was a moment in the first half when I felt "Can we leave the theatre?".

Overall, Watch the movie if you are inquisitive about the movie after watching the trailer. 

Takeaway from the movie:

• I don't think my wife will ever ask me to go and get popcorn while watching the movie.
• Never get a lift to home from an old friend.
• If my wife had used her own suggestion (in this discussion) she would have escaped the trauma and the other girl would have ran away in the middle of the movie.
• I lost my chance of suggesting a movie next time I go with my wife. :P
• I really liked the graphics in the movie title and the numerous posters that were created. :)

Ayirathil Oruvan - missing the magic

It's a Selvaraghavan movie. Rated 'A'.

A film that had a good start and a bad ending. The whole film is split into two parts. Part I (first half) is fun, adventurous and entertaining. Part 2 (second half) is an art film with a clashing cultural script. It looked like selva ran out of ideas to complete the movie. The 32 crore budget is predominantly spent in graphics and animation. Certain places there are glitches, but over all it is a good effort. Selva shows his psychotic nature in this film again. His earlier films were on similar lines too. One about adolescent gags and teenage capers and another on psycho boy in love. If you had watched the trailer, it exactly tells only one half of the movie, the remaining is the untold story. The films dialogs go from vulgar words that were beeped by the sensor board to historic Tamil. Many places the script seems broken. Lot of scenes and actions are left for the audience to interpret. This raises many questions at the end of the movie! Also selva copied many scenes from movie 300.

Andreya - not up to the expectations. She would have spoken 10 lines of dialog in the movie and all the 10 lines were spoken in the first half. Second half she just had to appear with the crowd.

Karthik - Another different try, but still less role in the movie.

Parthiban - Featuring as an old king, he did a good job in the one half of the film that was given to him. Carrying the majesty of the kings and his expression in betrayal are good.

Remasen - She is the pivot role in the movie. A good second starting for her in the film industry. Did a neat job for the role that was assigned to her. No doubt she will bear few awards for the movie if at all they give one for it.

Why not to watch the movie?

Too many unwanted scenes on killing, war, blood and women.

Recent addiction - Kangal Irandal

After a long time Sun Music comes with moderate noise through my cable operator. So listening to songs after a long time. This song took me off in the first view! (Kangal Irandal - Subramaniapuram) By the time I compose this I would have watched it 20+ times. :) It doesn't mean anything, only that I like the way the song is shot.

Wonderla - Novell Cricket - Richmond - மொழி

It was a wonderful week to think and cherish!

Weeks back we kick started the plans for this so called get-together. Internal mail threads hitting record count. Then finally we all set it the journey to wonderla. It was slow due to morning traffic in Bangalore. But reached the junction in mysore road, where we got to take a diversion to the theme park. The first though that came to most of us when we went there was "look at the crowd". Yes, there was children, family and friends pouring out to enjoy their day. Fares were bit on the high end, but easily affordable for any bangalorean. Adults 540/- and children 400/- on weekends. Once we entered we filled things in locker rooms and set out for Land rides. Its a best place for people who love adrenalin rushing fun. There are rides that can turn you from 0-360 degrees. I enjoyed a few too, if not all. Then for some snacks and lunch by the time it was around 2pm. Lunch seems to be good, point was the place was maintained clean inspite of the floating population in and out of the cafeteria.

Then we went for the water rides, Disco rain dance was good, where we had awesome fun. Then water pendulum me and my friend (two heavy weights) had a wonderful run. Then the lazy river, where many cursed me for various reason :). Then the major attraction of them was a water skye, where we splash on water from a high start. The attraction was on the way down, high speed capture our excited descent. Once the ride is over we can get hard/soft copy of the photo. One thing reader, its a pretty crowed place, for every ride you got to stand in the queue for 10-20 min.

One person to be credited here was Damodrakannan (aka dams). He was the transportation organizer for the Wonderla trip, it was neat to go and come by cab. Else our life would have been miserable by boarding BMTC.

Day 2: It was a hot sunny Sunday morning, where myself and some of my team mates gathered to play a cricket match within Novell (currently interning in this company). Funny part was own team did not even have the minimum number of players to play a match. Some how we gathered others and played. Our opponents won the game due to our poor bowling. Then pit stop was Richmond hotel, bangalore for lunch. Though the place was good, the menu was not attractive. Then a small nap. :) By the evening few of us planned to go to மொழி - tamil film.

மொழி - Review:
This is the first time I try something like this in my Scribbling. The film was soft, meaningful and comedy film. The theme chosen there was good. A story about a girl who is deaf and dumb. The first half was loaded with giggles by Prakashraj and Pritivraj. After Azhagiya Theeye or Kanda Naal Mudhal this seems to be again an out of the box theme and low budget hit. Jothika played her part well and also credited by the music. Hence its worth for money!
I give it a 9/10
