Story Time - 2 (Drink Responsibly)

Sankaran pillai is back. Sankaran pillai is a father who wanted to teach his son everything. Both good and bad. So this time he takes his son to the bar. He places order for himself and his son. They both drink and time passes by. He keeps repeating the order and they continue drinking, talking and laughing. Now his son had this BIG doubt, when should I stop drinking? What the amount after which I would that I'm done?

He posted Sankaran pillai the same question. Sankaran pillai thinks for a moment and wanted to really impress his son with an answer. So he wants an example, so looks around him and replies, "Look at that table in the right? Yes papa, I do. There are those 4 men who are drinking, when those 4 men become 8 men to your eyes. It means you are done and its time to go home.

Boy looks stumped and says, "But there are only 2 people sitting at the table."

Nosocomephobia - Fear of Hospitals.

Did you know that I hate to going to the hospital? Even worse was going alone, really no one to tell whats happening behind you. I have sandwiched my fingers in a half a ton heavy drainage lid or turned my finger in opposite direction or shed some flesh with some unattended blade on a playing ground. I never cared about them when they really happen in front of me. Behind me is something I really don appreciate. I ended up in this undisclosed name hospital (lets call it CMH) waiting for undisclosed name doctor. Last time I ended up paying 100 bucks for a 2 min hair cut, see how I spent it this time.

There she was waiting for her patients and I went to her room. The "Easy HMS" (guess what.. Its Hospital Management System) did not tell my name. There are two others patients with name "smitha" & "Raj". She asked me to go to the door and yell those names and see if they were there. Damm! Am I the ward boy. They were not there and she used the ester egg in HMS and spiked my rank to one.

Without an advocate I started talking and said I had a kind of next sprain or stiff next. She asked me to pull the chair and come near. Then she picked up her stethoscope and checked if my pulse was proper. Wooo! Yes my heart was beating. :) Good. She then asked from when I was having this pain, I said 2 day! Immediately she poured, "What were you doing for the last two days?" Good question, but I don have a answer. Diagnose two, where in the neck are you having this pain? I somehow managed to mark the area. She then nodded and took the BP of mine. Damm! Pulse and PB for a neck sprain. She was done and she started writing.

To impress her higher authority and fill the space in a sheet. She decided to write, write and write. She wrote more than what she spoke. OMG! She even forgot the spelling of the tablet, She writes in air first and then writes on my paper. I then asked, should I lie down on a flat surface or should I have a support when I sit. She said, not needed the physiotherapy would take care of it. I then ended up as, "pay for the physio and then follow the tablets". Damm! money money and fking money.

The Physio was interesting too. Ok! This physiotherapy doctor is restless, since all her patients took the 6-8 slot. Since that's the last and its fully loaded. To hold the ultrasonic clips across by back, she tied up a thread in a lingerie kind of setup. (House wifes don stop talking...) There was a female some 2 beds away and she asks the same question again and again. How boring they are: Doctor repeats it again and again to every one don come tomorrow at this time, I will whip you! Better come early. I vowed I will.

Vijay tweeted me of an interesting treatment of the sprain (watch the last part of the video). Dude it really worked. There was me sitting at the first seat and this cute girl with round face and big eyes with yellow salwar! Finding someone desperately to ask "BTM, BTM". I was watching and was not in a great mood to speak out. So I nodded out shaking my head up and down with which she definitely nailed that this will go to BTM and got in. Shit! I had a complaint of stiff neck.

Another ditch in the road, You keep moving

And she takes another step
Slowly she opens the door
Check that he is sleeping
Pick up all the broken glass
And furniture on the floor
Been up half the night screaming
Now its time to get away
Pack up the kids in the car
Another bruise to try and hide
Another alibi to write

Another ditch in the road
You keep moving
Another stop sign
You keep moving on
And the years go by so fast
Wonder how I ever made it through

And there are children to think of
Babys asleep in the back seat
Wonder how theyll ever make it
Through this living nightmare
But the mind is an amazing thing
Full of candy dreams and new toys
And another cheap hotel
Two beds and a coffee machine
But there are groceries to buy
And she knows shell have to go home

Another ditch in the road
You keep moving
Another stop sign
You keep moving on
And the years go by so fast
Wonder how I ever made it through

Another bruise to try and hide
Another alibi to write
Another lonely highway in the black of night
Theres hope in the darkness
I know youre gonna make it

Another ditch in the road
Keep moving
Another stop sign
You keep moving on
And the years go by so fast
Silent fortress built to last
Wonder how I ever made it

I got up from my dream
I remembered the song
I remembered the scene
I remembered all, but
I never remembered her

She said...

She was tensed than usual. Still her hair dribbles drops of water with the mild aroma of shampoo. With all the hurry, she gets her red bag from the corner. Stuffs those dresses that she intended to take. Talking to herself, but her inner voice is loud enough to echo the room. Hesitates... Holds the flight ticket in her hand sits on the bed for one last thought. Can I just skip this flight? Can I call and say, "amma I'm not coming? I missed the flight" After a deep breath she realizes that she couldn't hold her sweat from rolling out.

By 8am she is sitting in the passengers lobby after the security check. Trying to distract her from thinking about it, she tried reading all the sign boards that she could see. But like a child, she's not able to read and stares at them. It was the longest flight journey for her though it was less by 11 hours when compared to her previous journey.

Reaches home. The next day morning and after some preparation she gets into the car. She feels why is this unusual silence in it where only the car spoke with its horn. She traveled from home down to a town. She forces a smile across her face now and then during the travel. Her uneasiness curve steeps up. On reaching there, every such gathering would have a common person with great sense of PJ. A round of introduction happens and people start staring at those two poor souls. What are they supposed to do?

She said, she wanted to speak. Where could they hide with so much people gathered around? A elderly man said, "you can use the near by primary school". She din prepare for this interview (1:1). So both ran out of questions. Neither him after the jet lag he had he wanted to sleep, than have a conversation. Breaking the ice was his "Hi...", She replied "hi..." "sollunga... (tell me)" By the time they both knew their name and what their parents do, she could already hear that same voice she had been hearing for 22 years. "Here we come..." Are you folks done? Damm!!! Is this interview (introduction only interview) so short. Now what?

Getting back home, she sat down and started crying. They asked her, "Why do you want to cry now?" Did you like him? "he seems to be a good guy". You liked their family? "They seems to be nicely put up". Hell, why do they want to answer for her question? She kept crying.

Login 2008

The expectations were meet this year again is how I would like to begin. Only four things come to my mind this Login. First time I was standing in my Hod's room for not doing anything wrong. Just a friendly talk with sir and few other Alumnus. It was great talking to him and meeting few other faculty, unfortunately Dr. Navaneethan sir had his classes so was not able to spend much time with us.

Being the Judge of Software presentation for Login 2008. It was a honor to sit in the first row and judge some really cool algorithmic implementations. Firstly thanks to Senthil for inviting me. Also I was thrilled and privileged to sit along side with Dr. Anitha and my first batch Alumnus. To be frank, I was bit tensed on going there. Since I din do much preparation of solving it. But really an awesome job done by the software presentation team. They had gone in and out of the software that were submitted and provided the judges with a summary of each software. Whats the pros and cons of the implementation, what the algorithmic design used and a rigid set of test cases with their pass/fail status. This made life so much easier for me. CIT and NIT won the first and second place. CIT took it for a good algo and software UI. NIT won for his solid algorithmic design and presentation skills. Others either someone else project or had the worst implementation. Even ended up having a debate with Anitha mamm about an implementation and was even questioned by some juniors of how I found an approach in the algo interesting. :) Signs are good.

There is less space in college to walk even. Every where multi storied class rooms are coming and they are connected by steel structures in air. Even the two-wheeler stand is vanished and a 5 floor building is coming up. Production dept industry is wiped off, some parts of the industry are converted to class rooms. :) No chairs to sit in cafe and have long chats. Had my lemon tea finally after 2 years.

Entertainment, the synonymous thought that strikes when Login is told. Even after sleeping for 1 hour their spirits and energy level was go great. :) Esp the first years and second years were stunning. Ping me back so that I would share the rest of the photos and videos. :)

After so much hesitation decided to bore my juniors with some lecture. Just another routine of what my seniors did to us. (Though it was not boring, I know laks would kick my ass if I said so :) ) We had some questions to answer. Thought Sri was in full flow we had our peanut time slot to talk. :) Altogether it was great fun going to Tech soil again.

கண்மணி அன்போட காதலன்

Disclaimer: Any part of this post directly or indirectly relate to my employer or great artist behind this song.

Just a small thought of what will happen if a nerd composes the same song with his nerdish girl friend. This song is just a reminder of "machan peru madurai..." song that we composed for srihari in hostel. Just incase your browser does not render the font properly, thy this image version.

Update: Due to issues in rendering this font, I'm doing a Ctrl+Shift+End and del for the text. Until I really complete the text version. Please use the image version.
